If you have a guitar, a pick and a little initiative, you're all set for some easy guitar lessons. Grab a comfy chair and settle in for some basic easy guitar lessons.
First, you need to know your instrument.
The headstock is the part of the guitar where you find the tuning keys or tuners. These are used to lower or raise the pitch of the strings. Right below the headstock is the neck.

At the other end of the neck is the body. If you are playing an acoustic guitar, there will be a sound hole in the center of the body. This amplifies the sound.
Electric guitars do not have a sound hole. Instead, they have pickups, which pick up what you play and send it to the amplifier. Then you have the strings attached to the tuners, running down the neck, over the sound hole or pickups and then to the bridge.

Knowing how to hold your guitar properly is equally important. The thickest string should on the top as you hold the instrument with the neck parallel to the ground and the body resting on one of your legs.
Next, you want to learn to tune your guitar.

Before you can begin to learn to play a guitar, this skill should be first on the list. There are many resources you can refer to. Ask a friend who plays to show you, go online or consult a book. A guitar can be tuned by ear, with a keyboard or a set of tuning pipes. Be sure not to pick the strings too hard or too soft. Just use your wrist, not your whole arm. There are three strokes to learn; downward, upward and alternate (up and down). With practice, you will find the best pressure to make the proper sound.

Next, you can learn some chords. Purchase a book of chord diagrams and start practicing them one by one until you memorize them. The best thing you can do here is to learn the most common chords first. My suggestion is to learn C major, D major and G major. Play each one until it is committed to memory, then move to the next one. Then practice changing chords until the motion is fluid and effortless. You can now practice with songs that use these chords.

There are plenty of easy guitar lesson resources. These include, but are no limited to, books, magazines and online resources. Finding easy guitar lessons online is the easiest way to go. Once the basics of playing guitar have been learned, easy guitar lessons will be simple to find online. Most will teach you simple songs right off. These are designed for total beginners and so are very easy to learn. After only a few lessons, you should be able to surprise your friends in a short period of time.

Not only do these sites have step by step easy guitar lessons, but usually have a resource for popular songs made easy to learn. You could be playing one of your own favorite songs before you know it! Search for easy guitar lessons at your favorite search site. Yahoo!, Google or MSN should give you enough choices to get started.
